Abend & Silber join the lawline.com faculty

Richard Abend and Josh Silber recently joined the lawline.com faculty.  They presented a lecture entitled A Practical Approach to Medical Malpractice Litigation.   Josh Silber and Richard H. Abend offer an engaging discourse on the typical procedures of malpractice litigation, and outline the strategies a lawyer can employ to maximize performance in court. Topics include an overview of the components of a malpractice suit; the secrets to selecting an expert witness; issues of liability; tips on discovery; and the importance of the vetting process in separating the unsuccessful cases from the lucrative ones.

Obama Selects Sotomayor for the Supreme Court

President Obama announced his selection of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court of the United States earlier today.  Judge Sotomayor currently serves as a Justice for the Second Circuit, U.S. Court of Appeals in Manahattan.

Judge Sotomayor is a native New Yorker and graduate of Yale Law School.  One of her most noteworthy decisions ended the 1995 Major League Baseball Strike ruling in favor the the players and against the owners.  Her nomination will add to the diversity of the Court as Judge Sotomayor would be its first Hispanic member and second sitting female Justice.

LAW DAY 2009

Every year on May 1st the United States celebrates Law Day, U.S.A.. It is meant to reflect on the role of law in the foundation of the country and to recognize its importance for society.

On May 12, 2009 Richard Abend and Josh Silber will celebrate Law Day by attending the annual New York State Trial Lawyers Association (NYSTLA) Law Day Dinner. This year’s honoree is the Chief Justice of New York State, the Honorable Jonathan Lippman of the New York State Court of Appeals. The Keynote Speaker is United States Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY).
